During the holiday season, it can be easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of buying gifts and putting up all your decorations. However, it is important to take the time to find ways that you can give back to those in need in your local community. The NBC Bay Area & Safeway's œHelp Us End Hunger Holiday Food Drive is the perfect way to help your holiday season mean even more.
On Saturday, November 21st, volunteers will be stationed at almost every Safeway store in the Bay Area to encourage shoppers to purchase a pre-filled bag of groceries for only $10 that will be donated to Bay Area food banks.
Seven food banks in the area will be receiving the donations. The network of local food banks helps to serve more than 780,000 residents every month. Even as the economy continues to improve, thousands of residents of the Bay Area rely on food banks to fill their bellies each week. The goal of the Holiday Food Drive is to help create awareness of the hunger issues in the local area and provide NBC viewers a simple way to help out.
NBC Bay Area has partnered with Safeway for the past six years to help make sure that the local food banks have full shelves for the holiday season.
